Small Knit Sock Monkey-Worked flat, nice and simple!
Gather your materials!
8ply wool in 3 colours & 3.5 needles, stuffing, 2 buttons & wool
needle.
All knitting is stocking stitch (knit row, purl row)
Legs & Arms (make 4)
Cast on 15 stitches in main colour - work 14 rows
Rows 15-16: stripe colour
Rows 17-18: main colour
Rows 19-20: stripe colour
Rows 21-22: main colour
Rows 23-26: Change to paw colour
Row 27: k4, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k3
Row 28: p2, p2tog, p3, p2tog, p2, p2tog
Cut wool, leaving a long strand, pass wool through loops on needle. Pull tight to close. Weave in loose wool strands then sew long edge. Stuff.
Tail – basically a long skinny version of the arm!
Cast on 10 stitches in main colour - work 20 rows (or as long as you like)
Rows 21-22: stripe colour
Rows 23-24: main colour
Rows 25-26: stripe colour
Rows 27-32: main colour
Row 33: k2, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k1
Row 34: p1, p2tog, p2, p2tog, p1
Cut wool, leaving a long strand, pass wool through loops on needle. Pull tight to close and sew long edge. Stuff.
Nose or muzzle
Cast on 24 stitches in paw colour – work 4 rows
Row 5: k5, k2tog, k11, k2tog, k5
Row 6: p5, p2tog, p9, p2tog, p5
Row 7: k5, k2tog, k7, k2tog, k5
Row 8: p5, p2tog, p5, p2tog, p5
Cast off, sew together (short edges then cast off edge) – see image.
Ears (make 2)
cast on 6 and knit one row
Row 2: increase 1 in first stitch, k4, increase 1 in last stitch
Row 3: increase 1 in first stitch, k6, increase 1 in last stitch
Row 4: k
Row 5: K1, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k1
Row 6: K1, k2tog, k2, k2tog, k1
Row 7: K2tog, k2 ,k2tog
Row 8: cast off
Body – knitted bottom up!
Cast on 35 stitches in main colour - work 18 rows
Rows 19-20: stripe colour
Rows 21-22: main colour
Rows 23-24: stripe colour
Work 12 rows
Row 37-42: change to paw colour
Row 43: k6, k2tog, k8, k2tog, k8, k2tog, k7
Row 44: p6, p2tog, p8, p2tog, p8, p2tog, p4
Row 45: k4, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k6, k2tog, k4, k2tog, k1
Row 46: p2tog, p4, p2tog, p5, p2tog, p5, p2tog, p3
Cut wool, leaving a long strand, pass wool through loops on needle. Pull tight to close. Weave in loose wool strands. Sew up seams.
All together now!
Position nose placing a little stuffing in the nose before sewing on. Position and sew on legs, arms and tail. Position and sew on eyes & ears. Voila – find someone special to give it to (or snuggle it yourself!).
